Week 1

Essendon Football Club News

ABC-News story

This version of the news on the Essendon Football Club was very thorough. It covered the explanation of what a 'show cause notice' is, along with a link to a video clip to offer. It provided direct and indirect quotes, and research of relevant past events (with links) within the club, for example James Hird. This version with as much information as possible was targeted for an audience that would be heavily involved in the club and the sport.

Essendon Club statement

The statement that Essendon Football Club released was short and simple. It informed its audience of the clubs priorities and that further relevant information will be released in the future. The key message was to inform the audience briefly of what had happened, and what the club is aiming to do about it. It was clean and tidy and direct.

Press conference

The press conference delivered by the Essendon Football Club, was an official approach, with a key message of a defensive manner, protecting the clubs image and values. It was supported by facts and research of the event right at the beginning of the release with references to the legalities to be considered and that of past events. Whilst explaining the clubs actions to be taken, it was directed to a large demographic of the sport, its fans, and business ties in that area.
